An Injury-Free Environment.

Big-D is dedicated to providing a safe work environment for everyone on our job sites. We utilize an ongoing training regimen to educate our employees and our subcontractors on proper work methods and up-to-the-minute safety regulations. Our corporate safety officer reviews, implements and enforces our safety program.

Big-D imposes a 100% hardhat policy on all our projects. All individuals on-site are required to wear hardhats. Housekeeping is another critical aspect of safety. A clean work environment promotes worker safety. Full-time cleanup is conducted by a dedicated labor crew. Additionally, all subcontractors will be asked to provide personnel to do site-wide cleaning each week. Dumpsters are pulled on a weekly basis; more often if needed. Part of the scope review with each subcontractor is to make sure that they have included the time for regular cleaning and, for some trades, that they are providing dumpsters and removal. Each subcontractor staging area will be inspected regularly for cleanliness and orderliness.

Each employee will attend a Safety Orientation prior to commencement of work. At a minimum, this Safety Orientation will cover Emergency Procedures, Personal Protective Equipment, Hazard Communication, Fall Protection, Housekeeping, Hearing Protection, Fire Protection, and other site-specific potential hazards. Each employee will also be required to submit a current drug and alcohol test. We will ensure the site is free from substance abuse.

Pre-construction meetings are conducted with each subcontractor. In these meetings we describe the expectations of the Project Safety Program. We discuss the anticipated hazards involved with the subcontractor scope-of-work and ways to minimize those hazards. Each employee working on a project is responsible for adhering to safe work practices. Our goal is to educate employees to enable them to work safely.

Big-D Construction maintains a Safety Award Program for its employees. Many subcontractors also have safety rewards and incentives within their individual firms. In addition, we have site-specific safety rewards. We have set aside funds to be utilized for reward luncheons for all workers on the job site.

Big-D Construction employs a written Injury and Illness Prevention Program and a written Hazardous Communication Program. The key element in our safety program is training. Employee competency is essential to the success of any safety program. Our Safety Program begins with a comprehensive employee orientation. More importantly, we are proactive in maintaining a program of ongoing safety training. In addition to training materials and literature, we have in-house safety professionals certified as trainers on forklifts and aerial work lift platforms.

We have upper management commitment to making our work environment as safe as possible. Safety is a core value of Big-D Construction. We will provide a safe work environment for our employees and the employees of our subcontractors and customers.
