PHYSICAL FITNESS FACILITY

This project comprised the design and construction of an 85,000 square-foot physical fitness facility, which includes fitness, exercise, structured activity, gymnasium and natatorium modules. The overall goal of this project was to provide a functional, secure, visually appealing, state-of-the-art facility rivaling similar use facilities found in local communities and on college campuses. Each module has a specific location and purpose.
Fitness module: This area provides space for three separate functions to include cardiovascular, free weight and circuit training. The cardiovascular area contains training equipment such as treadmills, stationary bicycles and stair climbers and is divided into two different areas to provide different exercise opportunities. The free weight area houses free weight and plate-loaded equipment, benches and storage racks and is collocated with the circuit training area, containing equipment with pin-selected weights. One of the cardiovascular areas houses a cardio theater. Open ceilings, color and lighting draw users into the space.
Exercise module: This area contains classrooms designed to accommodate functional fitness programs to include aerobics, martial arts, yoga, step-conditioning and boxercise. Machine-milled aerobic floors and mirrored walls with tempered glass and 9’ ceilings are composed of highly light reflective and absorbent materials.
Structured Activity module: This area consists of dedicated components designed and equipped to accommodate limited activities, such as a climbing wall, spinning studio, additional racquetball and/or squash court(s), permanent combative room and an additional aerobic studio. Additional components include an increased fitness and health assessment area, child-care room and juice/smoothie bar.
Gymnasium module: This area houses three basketball courts as well as storage areas for each court. One court is set up as a competition court including stadium seating.
Natatorium module: This area houses an indoor pool, an associated deck around the pool, seating area, pool equipment area, chemical storage area, mechanical room, storage area, staff room/first aid station and pool office.
