GATEWAY BLOCK A
Total Size: 1,000,000 square feet
Duration: 20 months
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
The Gateway Project is a massive walking community encompassing three city blocks. Block A contains a mixture of restaurants, parking, retail and office space. The parking structure is 554,000 square feet and contains 1,482 stalls on four levels (with two underground).
It has a tunnel connecting other blocks of the project. The retail space boasts 264,000 square feet and includes a 12-screen theater, an Imax screen, upscale restaurants, and will also be the new home for Utah’s Clark Planetarium. The retail and office space is contained in two buildings, separated by a pedestrian mall with a water feature. The highlight of the southern end of the block is a 136,000 square-foot office on 6 levels.
Other blocks of the project are connected by pedestrian bridges which cross city streets. The buildings are capped with architectural metal elements soaring up to 80 feet above the roof lines. The overall design of the project provides an old world image through the use of color washes and stonework. This project will revitalize the downtown area and is located adjacent to the 20,000-seat Energy Solutions Arena, which is home of the NBA Utah Jazz.
