OREM PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING

The City of Orem’s Public Safety Building housing the fire, police, and community education departments is one of four buildings comprising Orem’s City Center campus-style complex.
To integrate the new building into the complex and provide continuity and efficiency of services between all four buildings, the Public Safety Building was constructed in the middle of the original parking area. A new parking area was required prior to construction of the building enabling the City’s vital services to remain operational during construction. The new parking area was required to be completed and fully equipped with installation of storm drainage, landscaping and lighting.
The footings and foundation are a combination of spread and continuous footings with stem wall. The first floor slab is on grade and the second floor slab on metal deck. The structural framing system is built of steel columns with a combination of wide flange and open web girders and joists. Floors are wide flange and the roof framing is built of wide flange beams with open web joists. The exterior masonry veneer walls cover gypsum board sheathing over steel studs.
The 32,000 square foot building houses Orem City Police 911 emergency call center and dispatch center, and the City’s Fire Marshall and all fire department administration offices. The temporary holding facility includes four adult and two juvenile holding cells as well as facilities for processing, receiving, booking and holding inmates until transportation to the jail. The building also contains a physical training room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and briefing and conferencing rooms.
