- Description
The McKay-Dee Hospital project was a new construction, state-of-the-art healthcare facility on a 62-acre site.
The six-story structure included a 307,363-sf main tower and a 106,224-sf clinic. Buildings were constructed with concrete foundations and structural steel framing covered by Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panels and all building systems utilized the latest in technology. Inside, the hospital featured 278 patient beds, a 33-bay emergency room, 17 operating rooms, 14 labor and delivery rooms, a 16-room intensive care unit (ICU), behavioral health unit, an imaging department with advanced linear accelerator, and numerous specialized departments and support spaces. Interiors are high-quality and durable while comfortable and calming for patient and visitors. The main entrance features a five-story glass atrium with water wall and fireplace, creating a dramatic focal point. Sitework on the project was extensive including park-like landscaping, a one-mile walking path that connects to a nearby nature preserve, and 1,600-stall parking lot. Additionally, Big-D’s scope included construction of a central boiler heating plant.
Since completion in 2001, Big-D has subsequently completed numerous remodels, additions and tenant improvement projects at McKay-Dee Hospital.
