  • Description
The intention of Salt Lake City & County Building project was to address more than 100 years of stone deterioration and serious seismic deficiencies. Primary tasks were to stabilize the foundation, perform extensive exterior stone restoration and repairs, refurbish the windows building-wide, and complete various other minor upgrades. For the seismic upgrade, Big-D installed an extensive array of reinforced concrete piers throughout the entire sub-basement. The stone remediation work was both restorative and maintenance in nature and involved the historic Kyune sandstone façade, modern replacement stone, sheet metal flashing, and waterproofing materials and their related components. The window remediation called for repainting, recaulking and repair of any deteriorated wood elements and required removal and reinstallation of original 120-year-old glazing in the majority of the 300+ windows. The work was intense, complex, and crews overcame a number of challenges. It was a substantial effort by all and, remarkably, the project was completed a full year ahead of schedule.
