Utah Valley University Sorensen Student Center Renovation and Addition

The Sorensen Student Center renovation and expansion included 90,000-sf renovated space and 30,000-sf of new construction across three distinct areas. The project required significant structural upgrades with new steel brace frames, particularly challenging due to their installation adjacent to an active food court housing eleven vendors. Key elements included renovations to the Ragan Theater, Center Stage, bookstore, food court, administrative offices, and various student services areas. The new commissary addition required H-pile shoring and concrete foundations and was constructed while maintaining loading dock operations. Construction sequencing was carefully orchestrated to ensure continuous building access, protect existing structures, and maintain safe pedestrian routes throughout the active campus hub. Additional scope included elevator replacement, retail space modernization, restaurant frontage redesign, and upper concourse improvements, all while minimizing disruption to daily campus operations.
