UDOT Salt Lake West Maintenance Facility

The Salt Lake West Maintenance Facility is new 32,000-sf Utah Department of Transportation maintenance complex that includes two CMU structures – a 21,000-sf maintenance building with repair bays, maintenance bay, parts storage, office, and restroom, and a 11,200-sf salt storage building. The project also included construction of a wash rack, sander rack, vehicle site ramp structure, a dumpster enclosure. Sitework included road/curb/gutter, asphalt paving, entry gates, perimeter fencing, etc. Big-D collaborated with DFCM and UDOT to develop and implement numerous value engineering solutions. The team faced challenges when unforeseen, undocumented soils were discovered during excavation. Big-D, UDOT and DFCM worked closely to find strategies to mitigate, expedite, and resolve the problem.
